For Christmas I received the Orchid Dollhouse kit made by Greenleaf. I chose this kit to make my shabby chic miniature dollhouse cottage because it was small with four rooms and has a cute Victorian cottage style. I love how it has so much charm with all of the upstairs dormer windows and the small bay window on the side. Like any Victorian cottage, it has a cute front porch and lots of whimsical gingerbread trim.
So I thought I would open the box and dive right in. This is how it looked when I opened the box.
Hmmm. I started reading the instructions. My brain is starting to get fuzzy. The first step is R&P (Remove and prepare) the double hung windows on sheet #8. The prepare part is what is stopping me in my tracks. I am not really that prepared. I am not even sure at this point that I have thought everything through. Apparently, prepare is sanding, painting or staining before you put things together and start gluing. So I guess having your design down on paper would be an important first step.
Okay, I am starting to panic.
Another sheet of instructions. Ha Ha! "DON'T PANIC!" Makes me wonder if they have had a lot of panicked
phone calls from first time dollhouse kit owners.
I am rethinking my approach to the assembly of my dollhouse cottage. Maybe I should be thinking of the colors and finishes before I start. So now I am taking a few days to do what interior designers do. I am going to make a design board.
I'll be back!
